Intercultural Competences

How does intercultural competence help me understand the world?

UNderstanding culture

Understanding the Cultural differences through Hofstede’s model helped me respect both perspectives, rather than feeling lost between them.

ANAlyzing encounters

Analyzing strangeness and culturally different encounters using DIVE model help me look different into perspective and suspend judgement.

Overcoming Stereotypes

“Approach people with curiosity, not assumptions.” I have learnt that: Stereotypes can block real connections, intercultural experience opened my perspective.

majority - minority dynamics
In every society, there is often a dominant (majority) group that shapes norms, values, and opportunities. Individuals from minority backgrounds may face systemic or subtle barriers, such as exclusion, stereotyping, or discrimination.

Global competent teaching skills are the abilities to teach with cultural awareness, empathy, global understanding, and inclusive practices, helping students thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.

Dealing with conflict in global teaching means listening actively, respecting differences, promoting empathy, and resolving issues fairly and calmly.

Understanding others' feelings and perspectives by paying close attention, showing care, and responding respectfully. These skills build trust and connection across cultures.
EAL TECHNIQUES

Use group tasks where EAL students can learn from peers.
Student learning assessment

Methods i used to assess student learning

peer assessment

Facilitate peer reviews where students assess each other's work, promoting collaborative learning.

self assessment

Encourage students to reflect on their own learning and identify areas for improvement.

one minute paper
At the end of class, have students quickly write what they learned and any questions they still have.
improvement plans

Plans to improve my teaching

Differentiated Instruction

Tailor lessons to varied learning styles and abilities

Plan: Create assignment options (e.g., written report, video, poster) allowing students to choose how to demonstrate learning.
Goal: Offer at least 2 assignment choices in every major project or assessment.

Classroom Management

Establish clear routines and expectations

Plan: Implement a reward system (stickers, praise, points); recognize positive behavior publicly.
Goal: Track and reward positive behavior daily or weekly.

Expand Professional LearninG

Attend workshops and obtain certifications for teaching improvement

Plan: Spend time on weekends for professional development.

Goal: Obtain a certificate for google classroom management (Google Certified Educator).

Boost Student Engagement

Use more active learning strategies (project-based, cooperative learning)

Plan: Survey students about their interests; relate lessons to current events or daily life.
Goal: Include real-life examples or student interests in every lesson.
